New Zealand was one of the last places on the planet to be discovered by humans. Ancestors of our Maori people began arriving here about 700 years ago; European settlers followed about 500 years later.
Today the country's population is just 4.2 million, even though our land area is just a little less than Italy. This means there's plenty of room for fantastic scenery and unforgettable experiences.
Within the three main islands that form New Zealand - North Island, South Island and Stewart Island - there is an amazing variety of landscapes. Volcanic landforms, geothermal areas and spectacular beaches give the North Island its point of difference, while the South Island has huge mountain ranges, dramatic fiords and beautiful river plains. Stewart Island is almost entirely protected national park - a world barely touched by development.
In New Zealand you can have the sort of holiday you need, with a wonderfully original twist. Whether you want to relax and indulge or engage in some of the adventure activities that our country is famous for, expect to have the time of your life.
