The Obi Room

If you would like to celebrate a special event or host an intimate corporate function, our semi-private dining room can accommodate up to 18 guests. Dine at the 5.5m solid wood table crafted from a single piece of suar hardwood and enjoy earthen walls decorated with spectacular vintage Japanese obi kimono prints. The Obi Room is framed by bubble glass which creates the impression of privacy and seclusion without being completely separated from the main dining room.

Sake Appreciation Package

Whether you want to experience the perfect match of sake with food or gain a greater understanding of Japanese culture and the customs around the traditional alcohol, we recommend adding a Sake Appreciation package to your Obi Room booking. 

Before food is served, diners learn the intricacies of nihonshu – the traditional Japanese beverage known as sake – under the tutelage of MASU.

A $35 per person charge includes the tasting flight of premium sakes as well as topical and anecdotal discussion points.

This package is only available in conjunction with a dinner booking for the Obi Room and must be booked in advance of the date of dining.  A minimum of 10 people is required for the Sake Appreciation package.  R18 for the service of alcohol.  Host responsibility limits apply.

The Chefs Kotatsu Table

Also cut from a single piece of hardwood is the Chef’s Kotatsu Table capable of seating eight to ten in cosy company. The sharp squares of the slab contrast with the overall soft ambiance of the restaurant’s luxurious handmade Kozo wallpapers; backlit to create a warming golden hue. Framing the Chef’s Kotatsu Table is the restaurant’s single piece of art, a large Japanese Dragon created by calligraphy master artist Ushio Sekiguchi.
