Giovanni Pilu, of Sydney’s iconic two hat restaurant PILU at freshwater is coming to Auckland for the first time for an Italian feast hosted by Sean Connolly at Gusto at the Grand.

"I'm really excited to be hosting this dinner with my great friend Sean - I'm looking forward to sharing with you the food of Sardinia & Pilu at Freshwater cooked using great local ingredients," says Giovanni Pilu.

For his first event in Auckland, the menu will reflect Giovanni’s cuisine; innovative, refined, yet maintaining the strict traditions of the cuisine of his homeland in Sardinia. Since opening the doors of his restaurant in 2004, Giovanni’s Pilu at Freshwater has consistently been bestowed two Chefs Hats by The Sydney Morning Herald’s Good Food Guide.

“It’s an honour to share my kitchen at Gusto at the Grand with legends that have been such an inspiration to me during my career. Last year it was Godfather of Italian cuisine Antonio Carluccio and this year it’s exciting to have my good friend Giovanni Pilu share his incredible food with Kiwis for the first time,” says Sean Connolly.

“I’ve know Giovanni for 15 years, we’ve cooked together a number of times, and our ethos is really similar in that we let the beautiful produce speak for itself on the plate. I can't wait to show him the wonderful produce, warmth and generosity of New Zealand, and for him to showcase regional Sardinian food which is beautiful, simple and so flavoursome,” says Sean Connolly.
